Construction and Ornamental Rocks
Throughout history, Yemen is well known and famous for the foundation and establishment of great ancient civilizations in which it constructed temples, palaces and great dams. Such constructions proved that Yemeni people have extremely great potentials and ability to make use of their numerous natural resources.Most important of which are the construction and ornamental rocks extracted by ancient yemenis and used for constructing and decorating variousstructures and buildings. Actually, Yemen has very large reserves of various rocks used for construction and decoration purposes. There are marbles, granites, basalts, limestone, tuff and ignimbrite.
From a geological perspective, the construction and ornamental rocks in Yemen have been classified based on the way they formed in nature. They are as follows:
1 –those construction and decoration rocks that were the outcome of volcanic formation, such as Ignimbrites, tuff and basalt rocks.
2–Those construction and ornamental rocks that were the outcome of depository formation, such as limestone, dolomite, travertine and sandstone.
3-Those construction and ornamental rocks that were the outcome of inner transforming volcanic formation such as granite, gneisses,gabbro, Diorite and marbles.
